Welcome to Genuinely Artificial!

This newsletter will augment your reality with AI insights, automation, and antics.

I’ll be operating as your own personal researcher, data scientist, data analyst, and tech journalist all rolled up into one.

With your help, we should be able to reach 100% worldwide subscribership within 34 newsletters if we double each time. Seems doable.

It’s the 5th newsletter release and I’m happy to say we’ve officially doubled our subscriber base reaching one step closer to worldwide subscribership. 🤝

8 × 2 = 16 subscribers achieved (currently pacing ahead of this 😁)

16 subscribers × 230 to go. 🤷‍♂️ 2 34 ~ 8.6 billion population 🌎️

Git has taken over the world and AI apps are solidifying it’s adoption. Multi-modal models are here and GPTs are starting to pop up everywhere.

AI NEWS & INSIGHTS

INDUSTRY NEWS

Open source and the rise of AI in 2023

Get on Git or get out! 93% of developers use it to build and deploy software around the world. Damn.

With the explosion of AI, developers are increasingly tinkering with AI models.

Three huge trends were seen on GitHub in 2023:

  1. 92% of all developers are using or experimenting with AI coding tools and some open-source AI projects are entering the top 10 most popular projects based on contributor counts in 2023.

  2. developers are increasing use of cloud-native applications (think infrastructure as code, Dockerfiles, and containers)

  3. The largest number of first-time open-source contributors joined the platform though private projects are dominating GitHub accounting for 80% of its entire activity.

The report also plays global hopscotch, highlighting booming developer communities worldwide

Brazil, China, India, and the United States are currently leading the pack. It's like watching the Olympics, but for coding, with countries vying for the "Most Developers" title.

GitHub offers a sneak peek into the future, predicting that India might snag the gold medal from the U.S. in developer count by 2027.

TOOLS, TUTORIALS, & TESTIMONIALS

TOOL & TUTORIAL SPOTLIGHT

Build multi-modal RAG with LlamaIndex while it turns 1!

With the introduction of the GPT-4V API, the RAG concept can now be extended to hybrid image/text use cases. Talk to your images and feel good about it.

prompt="Describe the images as an alternative text"

Typical RAG pipeline:

  • Input

  • Retrieval

  • Synthesis

  • Response

Steps:

  1. use the GPT-4V class to understand multiple images

  2. download mixed data file types to feed the model

  3. build separate multi-modal index and vector stores for text and images

  4. retrieve relevant text and image recording to image reasoning from Step 1
